Maison Jacques-Morin - The Hermitage

66, rue Allan-Point, Dorval (Montréal), Québec, H9S 2Z2, Canada

(English text following)

This long whitewashed stone house, the oldest in Dorval, at the end of a point in a row with a view of Lake St. Louis, was built by Jacques Morin shortly after two contiguous lands had been granted him in in 1674. He was the victim of Lachine Massacre of 1689 with his 24 years son and the house burned. His descendants restored it later, after the "Great Peace" of 1702. This remarkable heritage house in the typical architecture of the late seventeenth century would have served as staging post in the stagecoach era. Purchased in 1890 by James B. Allan, nephew of the shipowners Sir Hugh Allan, who gave to domain occupying the whole field Pointe Allan the name of "The Hermitage".
